The Bones Of Djulung

The Bones of Djulung is a short fairy tale about the youngest of seven sisters, who secretly befriends a brilliantly coloured fish named Djulung-djulung, sharing her own food until she grows thin while he grows fat. When her sisters discover the fish and eat him, she mourns alone — until a rooster reveals the truth and guides her to bury his bones in the forest. From those bones grows an extraordinary tree with an iron trunk, silk leaves, golden flowers, and diamond fruit, whose magic draws the attention of a distant king sailing in search of its origin.
