Donkeyskin

Donkeyskin is a fairy tale by Charles Perrault in which a princess faces an unthinkable fate when her grief-maddened king father demands she become his bride. Aided by her fairy godmother, she escapes the palace hidden beneath a donkey's skin, finding refuge on a humble farm where no one suspects her true identity. When a prince catches a glimpse of her beauty through a keyhole and falls desperately ill from longing, only a ring baked into a cake holds the power to unravel her disguise.
