The September Storm

"The September Storm" is a short story set in a 19th-century harbour town where a returning merchant ship faces a ferocious overnight gale. When Captain Jacob wakes to howling winds and rising floodwaters, he braves the storm alone to reach the wharf — only to find the ship in danger of capsizing. Racing against the tide, he and the crew fight to drop anchor in churning waves, salvage precious cargo, and prevent the vessel from being smashed apart as ropes snap and the anchor chain finally gives way.
