The Storm

"The Storm" by Jean-Henri Fabre follows young Jules and his Uncle Paul as they venture into a pine wood on a sweltering afternoon to collect a processionary caterpillar nest. While Jules is absorbed by curiosity and boyish excitement, his uncle watches the sky darken with growing unease. When a violent storm breaks without warning, Uncle Paul's quiet instinct pulls them away from shelter beneath a large pine — a decision whose full weight becomes terrifyingly clear moments later, leaving Jules shaken and full of questions his uncle promises to answer.
