A Narrow Escape

A Narrow Escape is a short story following Buz and Hum, two young bees venturing out on their first flight. Where cautious Hum stays close to the garden as advised, adventurous Buz cannot resist the lure of a distant clover field beyond the garden wall. After filling up on honey, a sudden gust of wind sends her plunging into a cold pond, and she must fight with everything she has just to survive. Poulsson builds real tension from Buz's desperate struggle toward a floating stick — small in scale, but surprisingly gripping.
