How the bluebird was chosen herald

"How the Bluebird Was Chosen Herald" is a short story that follows Arthur, a curious boy who learns from the magical Wise-and-Wonder-Man why the bluebird is the first bird of spring. The tale unfolds as Springtime holds a contest among birds — crow, parrot, blue jay, robin, and sparrow — each convinced of their own greatness. When the ancient Wizard Owl reads their true characters by comet-light, only one bird stands apart: the bluebird, who alone refuses to speak in his own favour.
