A Christmas Matinee

"A Christmas Matinee" is a short story set on a snowy Christmas Eve in Boston, where a streetcar conductor accidentally gives a group of theatre-goers too much change. While her companions dismiss the mistake, young Maidie Williams cannot let it pass — even if it means missing the concert she came for. Meanwhile, conductor Jim Stevens rides home haunted by the shortfall, knowing it stands between a sick baby and a Christmas with nothing to give. Two strangers, bound by one small coin, move toward a quietly powerful moment neither expected.
