Little Wolff’s Wooden Shoes

Little Wolff's Wooden Shoes is a short Christmas story about a seven-year-old orphan who endures a cold, lonely life with a miserly aunt and a cruel schoolmaster. On Christmas Eve, shivering in thin socks and wooden clogs while his well-dressed classmates chatter about their gifts, Wolff spots a barefoot child sleeping in a church doorway — and makes a choice that will cost him dearly. The story builds its emotional weight through small, precise cruelties and one extraordinary act of generosity.
