The Contest | Animal Stories

Following the death of the old rooster, the barnyard falls into disarray as the Gander, Gobbler, and Drake each boastfully vie for leadership, claiming their unique traits (long neck, majesty, worldly knowledge) make them the rightful king. A wise dog suggests they take turns ruling, but each contender's reign proves disastrously unsuited to the diverse needs of the other animals, leading to humiliation, fear of drowning, and division. The chaos ends abruptly when the farmer introduces a new rooster, whose natural authority and immediate crowing instantly establish him as the leader, restoring order and demonstrating that true leadership fits the role required by the community, rather than stemming from individual arrogance or mismatched skills.
