The Christmas Stocking

"The Christmas Stocking" traces the origins of a beloved holiday tradition back to an ancient Italian legend about Good St. Nicholas of Padua, who tossed knitted purses through open windows to help those in need. Baum follows the custom as it evolves across cold climates and changing fashions — from yarn purses on windowsills to stockings hung by the fireplace — weaving in themes of charity, generosity, and the enduring spirit of giving that connects Christmas celebrations across centuries.
