The King Of The Polar Bears

"The King of the Polar Bears" is a short story by L. Frank Baum following an ancient, powerful polar bear ruler whose encounter with men leaves him stripped of his magnificent white coat and hovering near death. Grateful gulls cover him in feathers to save his life — but his unusual new appearance sparks mockery among his subjects and a fierce challenge to his throne. With his loyal birds racing to recover his stolen hide and a mighty rival named Woof closing in, the king must prove his strength before time runs out.
