How The Elephant Got His Trunk | Animal Stories

In this zoo story, two monkeys, Jocko and Tito, stay up late gossiping and telling imaginative, humorous (and slightly insulting) tales about how other animals got their distinctive features, such as the lion's mane, hippo's mouth, and giraffe's neck. The central story explains that the elephant got his long trunk because he was overly nosy and poked a crocodile, who then grabbed his nose and stretched it out during the ensuing struggle. The other animals overhear these unflattering stories and become very angry, causing a noisy commotion that brings the keepers, though the mischievous monkeys remain largely unfazed.
