"The Girl Who Owned A Bear" is a short story by L. Frank Baum in which Jane Gladys Brown receives a mysterious book from a peculiar stranger bent on revenge against her father. When she opens its pages, a clown, a monkey, a donkey, a leopard, and finally a fearsome grizzly bear leap out — each flawed by a careless artist, and each with a grudge. When the bear announces he intends to eat her, Jane Gladys must think quickly, relying on wit rather than escape to protect herself from her own magical possessions.
