The Cat and the Fiddle | Fun Stories

This story provides a whimsical origin for the nursery rhyme "Hey Diddle Diddle," explaining how the seemingly impossible events could have occurred one summer evening on a farm. It follows a young boy, Bobby, who is left alone with his pets and his beloved fiddle. After falling asleep by a brook, a series of comical mishaps unfolds: his cat gets its tail tangled in the fiddle strings, frightening the nearby cow into jumping over the brook (where the moon is reflected), while the excited dog appears to laugh and accidentally knocks the supper dish and spoon into the water, inspiring Bobby to compose the famous verse based on the chaotic scene.
