The Fox And The Grapes | Aesop Fables
Freddy the fox spots some delicious-looking grapes hanging high above him. He tries repeatedly to jump and reach them, but they are always just out of his grasp. Frustrated and embarrassed, Freddy decides that the grapes are probably sour anyway and walks away, pretending he didn't want them in the first place. The story teaches a lesson about rationalization: sometimes, people convince themselves that they don't want something they can't have to protect their ego.
