A Letter From Santa Claus

"A Letter From Santa Claus" is a short story by Mark Twain written as a real Christmas letter to his young daughter Susy. Santa explains why a few items from her order couldn't be filled, then lays out an elaborate, delightfully absurd set of instructions — involving a blindfolded servant, a speaking tube, and a trip to the moon — for how Susy must receive her trunk full of doll's clothes. Tender and playful, the letter balances fatherly warmth with Twain's trademark wit.
